Pakistan Proposes Support for 15 Hydropower Projects in PSDP 2020-21-The 21st China(Guangzhou) Int’l Forging Industry Exhibition

Pakistan’s Ministry of Water Resources is likely to propose an allocation of PKR 140 billion for 15 Hydropower Projects of WAPDA with the total cost of RPKR 1363 billion in the Public Sector Development Programme 2020-21. Of the total demand of PKR 140 billion, PKR 38 billion is Foreign Exchange Component while PKR 102 billion is local component.
For three hydropower projects in initial stage with the generation capacity of 3698 MW and total estimated cost of PKR 620 billion, allocation of PKR 100 billion in next PSDP has been proposed. For the refurbishment of four Hydro Power stations of 580 MW, the demand for allocation in coming fiscal is PKR 14.67 billion. The total cost of the project is PKR 80.72 billion. For the feasibilities of two hydropower projects worth PKR 1.020 billion, demand for allocation is PKR 350 billion. For other three hydro projects worth PKR 1.742 billion, the proposed allocation is PKR 836 million.
Regarding the current portfolio of the power projects of WAPDA, the documents reveals that only ten percent of the total cost of 17 Hydropower projects worth PKR 1364.50 billion has been allocated in the PSDP 2019-20
Rwanda has secured a USD 214 million loan from China''s Export-Import Bank to build a new 43.5 megawatts hydropower plant that will help it reduce reliance on non-renewable energy sources and stabilise the grid. Rwanda’s Finance Minister Uzziel Ndagijimana said "In addition to the current 224 MW generation capacity, combined with the pipeline of power projects, Nyabarongo II Hydropower will increase grid generation capacity to an estimated 513.5 MW.”
The project will take nearly five years to complete and the cash will also be used to build a substation and 110KV transmission line covering 19.2 km from the plant to the Rulindo substation located in the north
