OAO Severstal, one of the world’s leading vertically integrated steeland steel-relatedmining companies, today announces that it has won a tender to supply about 100 thousand tonnes of large diameter pipes for the Ukhta-Torzhok (about 60 thousand tonnes) and Bovanenkovo-Ukhta (about 40 thousand tonnes) pipelines. The pipes are to be manufactured by the Izhora Pipe Mill, a part of Severstal’s Russian Steel division.
For construction of the Ukhta-Torzhokand Bovanenkovo-Ukhta projects the Izhora Pipe Mill will supply to its key client – OAO Gazprom 1420 mm diameter pipes of K65 and K60 grade plates with internal and externalanti-corrosioncoating, designed for a working pressure of 11.8 MPa and 9.8 MPa.
Severstal as a vertically integrated steel company produces its own raw materials, has its own steel making and rolling facilities that altogether provide substantial synergies for the company. The Izhora Pipe mill is located in close proximityto Mill 5000 (LPTs-3CherМK OAO Severstal), a supplier of a tubular billet (strip) for large-diameter pipes. Mill 5000 is able to produce all range of platefor the Ukhta-Torzhokand Bovanenkovo-Ukhtaprojects.
Vitaly Motorin, director of pipe production for Severstal’s Russian Steel division, commented: “Having been producing pipes and plates for the Ukhta-Torzhokand Bovanenkovo-Ukhtapipelines on our facilities in Kolpino since 2008, we gained all the necessary experience. For example, Izhora Pipe Mill was one of the first facilities in Russia and CIS producing ultra high strength pipes made of high strength steel K65 to build the section of “Bovanenkovo — Ukhta” main gas pipeline system notable for severe weather conditions with low temperatures”.
