According to FMI, transition from wired to wireless will become more pronounced in the future. Wired earphones and headphones represented nearly two-thirds of the global volume in 2014; however, by 2025, the market volume share is expected to decline to 64.4%.
FMI has segmented the global earphones and headphones market on the basis of price range into premium, mid-price, and low-price.
Low-price earphones and headphones accounted for nearly 193 Mn units out of the total 312.9 Mn units in 2014. However, owing to rising disposable income in emerging nations, demand for mid-price and premium earphones and headphones is expected to increase during the forecast period.
Use of earphones and headphones for personal use accounts for the bulk of the demand. According to FMI, the personal segment is the largest on the basis of application. In 2014, it represented 37.7% market share in terms of value, and 43.2% in terms of volume. This segment is expected to witness the highest CAGR during the forecast period 2015-2025.
Sales of earphones through online stores are growing at a stellar pace, resulting into a decline in the market share of multi-brand stores and single brand stores. Earphone segment is expected to represent nearly 32% market value share by 2025, up from 25.5% in 2014.
