Mill Steel Co. has acquired the assets of Steel Structural Systems, Louisville, Ky., a manufacturer of light-gauge steel framing components for the commercial and residential construction markets. The late November transaction is part of the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based service center’s strategy to diversify its holdings.
“Mill Steel has begun to look at acquisitions beyond its service center operations to other flat-rolled steel manufacturing businesses, which do not compete with the company’s core stamping and roll forming customers,” says David Samrick, Mill Steel president and CEO. “In a continual effort to leverage our management team, infrastructure, purchasing relationships and financial strength, Mill Steel consistently evaluates footprint expansion opportunities in support of its core service center operations.”
Under Mill Steel’s guidance, the new acquisition will go to market as Steel Structural Products and continue its growth and development in the construction products arena, Samrick says. It will source material from Mill Steel’s Jeffersonville, Ind., plant, as well as other service centers and mills.
Steel Structural Products operates from a 130,000-square-foot plant in Louisville. It will retain all 32 members of the company’s management, sales and production staff.
